#lbr this is the only football i care about #and i just burst into hysterical sobs while watching this #i think this is truly my favorite television show #nothing else makes me feel things like this show does #all it takes is one sentence and i’m reduced to emotional ruin #everyone needs to watch this show right now #i have a lot of feelings about this show apparently #everyone just needs to understand the perfection that is friday night lights
Soapbox time:
I watch a lot of TV. I love TV as a medium, what it can do, the sheer breadth of what it can accomplish with storytelling, and I truly think we’re in a golden age of television right now. And I am not a fan of football. Like, if my dad has a game on I’ll sit down and watch it with him, I’ve spent my time shivering in the stands over the years, but football as a thing is not something I care about. With that in mind know that I am being totally sincere when I say that Friday Night Lights is one of the best television shows ever made and the first season is probably the most perfect single season of TV I’ve seen in my life. If you’re still turning your nose up at it because you don’t like football and ‘it’s a football show’, I promise you, that’s not what it’s about. It’s the backdrop of their lives, certainly, the centre around which the narrative pivots, but this is a show about life and the horror and hope and helplessness and heartrending beauty of it all. It’s the most fundamentally human show ever produced and if you haven’t seen it, your life has a big gaping hole in it, you just don’t know it yet.
Also I think it’s entirely unfair of them to use “Hometown Glory” in this trailer because I am still getting shivers all over me holy hell watch this show.
